WhatsApp Changelog May 2024

Going to post another straight forward article which talks about all the changes and features spotted in WhatsApp Android (No changes spotted in Windows or Web this month).

WhatsApp Events

Now WhatsApp users can create and manage events within communities and groups. These events will work quite similar to Google Calendar events but just for WhatsApp.

Availability: Available to everyone.

Redesigned Text editor and Drawing tool

WhatsApp testing a new redesigned text editor and drawing tool for media/sticker editor. This also include some new fonts and colors.

Availability: Available widely among WhatsApp Beta testers.

Favorite Contacts in WhatsApp

WhatsApp working and testing a new feature that will let users add favorite contacts in WhatsApp. This will work quite similar to the phone book favorite feature.

Soon this feature may expand throughout WhatsApp I believe.

Availability: Available only to some WhatsApp Beta testers.

Minor changes and redesigns

Another call screen redesign

WhatsApp testing another redesigned call screen. This time all buttons moved to the button and three dot hides your connection strength. Similar design also appear for video and group calls.

New reply and reaction buttons

WhatsApp is testing a new reply and react buttons for media files. This will let users quickly reply or react to a media file while they’re viewing it.

Manage storage filters

WhatsApp added some quick filter chips to filters chats and channels inside manage storage settings.

60sec long status videos

WhatsApp launched the ability to upload 1min long videos in status.

Locked chat will sync across your devices

Finally all your locked chats will now sync across your other devices.

Pinned message media preview

Pinned messages will now show a small preview of media files.

Greener mentions

WhatsApp mentions will now appear in green color instead of blue.
